I am Laramie. “Hometown” is a little bit of an odd term for me, but I am originally from Stockton, California...and Nevada...and Chicago. Memphis is home at the moment and I look forward to adding more cities, and hopefully countries to the list.
I wish I could say that I have a musical background like my other comrades in arms, but being the daughter of a basketball coach (and unless softball and karate count as musical) I came from the other side of the spectrum. I was, however, also the child of a music pastor (PK, I know) and that in turn has made music a very versatile first language for me, which I am still discovering.
After seriously pursuing dance in Chicago with Illinois Ballet Theatre I found myself applying to a music college here in Memphis. No vocal training, no music theory, no clue what I was getting myself into. It was a random turn of events, but I had no idea how much music and feeling was living inside of me waiting to be released. I can pretend to play piano, I take great pictures holding a guitar, but I find my home in being the lead singer and writer for the band Laramie. Going from ballet to rock ‘n roll was like culture shock and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Dream on friends :)
